There should therefore be no restrictions in the form of censorship on artists. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There has always been a controversial topic about whether artists should be given unrestricted freedom to express their thought through their artwork. Some people suggest that some form of restriction such as censorship should be applied. Personally, I partly agree with this point of view.

The over-abused sexual images is the most important reason why some type of artworks should be censored. It can be explained by the fact that in order to increase the visual impact of graphical items, many artists introduce unusual or even offensive images without considering its impacts on target audiences. Many obscene works appear in guise of artwork, which abuse graphic sexual images, might be exposed to the public with those unwelcome messages. This will pose a threat on the welfare of audiences and especially deteriorate development of children if the authorities do not impose a limits on these sensitive scenes.

Although some artwork might cause huge negative impact on the viewers’ mind, the freedom of expressing ideas of artists should not be repressed under any circumstance. Undeniably, the artists’ creativity would be inhibited if these artists were threatened by censorship or prosecution. Besides that, since artwork inspires people to be creative and encourages them to reflect on what happen in reality, censorship a part of an artwork can hamper the growth of critical thinking of the audiences. One thing to exemplify this is that the scene showing murder, shooting, rape, slaughter… or even homicide may look frightening at first sight. However, this actually reflect the dark side of the modern society, making people conscious of its danger.

From what has been discussed, although some forms of artwork need to be examined before being made available to the public, not all of them should be censored.
