The table below gives information about UK independent films.

The table presents information on independent films released in the UK and the Republic of Ireland in 2012, detailing the number of productions in each genre and their share of total ticket sales.

Overall, there was no consistent link between the number of films produced and their commercial success. Some high-output genres generated relatively low revenue, while certain low-output categories achieved disproportionately high earnings.

Drama and Documentary were the most frequently produced genres, with 35 films each. However, their box office performance was modest, accounting for just 8.3% and 2.9% of total ticket sales, respectively. In contrast, Comedy proved to be the most lucrative category: 26 releases contributed an impressive 45.4% of total revenue. Biopics also performed exceptionally well; despite only one being released, it captured 9.1% of the market, making it the second most profitable genre overall.
