The charts below show the reasons why people travel to work by bicycle or by car.

The two pie charts compare the reasons commuters choose either cycling or driving as their mode of transport to work.

Overall, health benefits and reduced pollution are the primary motivations for cyclists, while comfort is the main factor influencing drivers.

Among cyclists, the incentives are evenly split between physical health and lower emissions, each accounting for 30% of respondents. The remaining reasons — cycling being faster than driving, cost-free, and avoiding parking difficulties — are fairly evenly distributed at 15%, 13%, and 12%, respectively.

In contrast, comfort dominates drivers’ motivations, cited by 40% of those who drive. This figure is nearly double that of commuters who drive due to long distances, which stands at 21%. Both speed and the ability to carry items to work are cited by 14%, slightly higher than the 11% who believe driving is safer than cycling.
