Outcomes of a research on the customers’ buying and drinking habits in Australia.

The bar chart compares coffee and tea purchasing habits among residents in five major Australian cities over four weeks. Overall, café visits were the most popular option in most cities, while fresh coffee consistently remained the least preferred choice.

Melbourne and Sydney had the highest rates of café purchases, at 64% and 61% respectively, highlighting a strong preference for social or on-the-go consumption. In contrast, fresh coffee attracted only around 34–36% of buyers in these cities, suggesting it was the least appealing option.

Brisbane and Hobart followed a similar pattern. While 55% of Brisbane residents bought coffee or tea at cafés, 63% of Hobart’s population did the same. Interestingly, Hobart also recorded the highest proportion of instant coffee purchases, at 54%.

Adelaide stood out as the only city where instant coffee (50%) slightly exceeded café visits (49%), marking a unique trend. Still, like the other cities, fresh coffee remained the least chosen option here, with just 34% of people buying it.
