Most children now spend an incredible amount of time in front of the television or computer. They are always glued to their screens. Looking at the screen does not use the brain. Several studies have shown that when children watch television or play computer games, their brain activity is minimal. When the brain is inactive for a long time, it affects the intellectual development of the child. Therefore, I agree with the argument that watching television or playing video games does not improve the mental or intellectual skills of children.

To embark with, when a child sits for hours staring at a computer screen, very few areas of the brain are activated. In contrast, activities such as reading or writing activate many areas of the brain. Activities that engage the brain improve a child’s intellectual and cognitive skills. Physical activities also promotes brain development.

When children watch TV, they do not move their limbs much. They don’t even blink. They just look at the screen. This content consumption is bad for the brain. In fact, research has shown that children who stay active through physical activity or creative pursuits such as writing, singing, or drawing are smarter than those who sit in front of the TV for hours. All this screen time also causes them several health problems. For instance, most children face the problem of obesity. They may even develop major diseases like breathing problems, heart disease and diabetes.

In conclusion, our bodies and minds are not meant to be idle for long periods of time. If we keep them calm, our intellectual abilities will suffer. Therefore, I agree with the statement that watching TV does not contribute to the development of the brain in children. Our brain is a large muscle. If we work on it, it will develop. But if we leave him idle, he will begin to lose his abilities.
