IELTS Reading Course (Ac+ GT)

In IELTS Reading, this type of question requires you to fill in missing information in a structured format. Instead of answering in full sentences, you complete a note, flowchart, table, or diagram using words or numbers from the passage.

These questions are designed to test your ability to:

  • Identify key information in a passage.
  • Understand how facts, processes, or data are organized.
  • Recognize relationships between ideas, events, or stages in a process.

1. Note Completion Question

Note Completion questions in IELTS Reading require you to fill in missing information in summarized notes based on a reading passage. These notes are usually in bullet points or short phrases, highlighting the key facts, ideas, or details from the passage.

You can usually identify this question type by these features:

  • Answers are factual details, dates, numbers, or short phrases rather than full sentences.
  • Notes are presented as bullet points or short lines.
  • There are blanks within the notes to fill.
  • Keywords in the notes usually match the passage’s topic, but wording may differ.

2. Flow Chart Completion

Flowchart Completion questions test your ability to understand and extract information about processes, sequences, or stages from a reading passage. In this task, a flowchart is provided with missing steps or stages, and you must fill in the blanks using words or short phrases from the text.

Unlike sentence or summary completion, flowchart questions focus on understanding the sequence of steps, identifying key information in the correct order, and accurately matching details from the passage to the visual structure of the flowchart.

You can usually identify this question type by these features:

  • A diagram with arrows or steps showing a process.
  • Blanks at one or more stages in the sequence.
  • Numbered steps or stages that must be completed in order.
  • Answers are usually keywords, short phrases, or numbers, not full sentences.

3. Table Completion Questions

Table Completion questions ask you to fill in missing information in a structured table based on a reading passage. The table usually summarizes facts, comparisons, statistics, or classifications, and your task is to locate the relevant details in the passage and complete the blanks.

You can usually identify this question type by these features:

  • A table with rows and columns, and some blank cells.
  • A clear topic or heading for the table.
  • Answers are typically words, short phrases, or numbers, not full sentences.
  • Keywords in the table often match or paraphrase words in the passage.

4. Diagram Completion Question

Diagram Completion questions require you to label parts of a diagram, process, system, or object based on information from a passage. Instead of writing full sentences, you fill in blanks with words, short phrases, or numbers directly from the text.

The instructions usually specify a word or number limit, for example: “NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS AND/OR A NUMBER.” Answers must reflect exact details or accurate paraphrasing from the passage.

You can identify this question type by these features:

  • A diagram or illustration with labels missing.
  • Blanks that need to be filled to complete the diagram.
  • Answers are generally single words, short phrases, or numbers.
  • The passage often describes the diagram in text, and you must extract the correct label.
