Many people believe that social networking sites (such as Facebook) have had a huge negative impact on both individuals and society. To what extent do you agree?

It has been argued that social media platforms bring negative effects to those who use them. In my opinion, I believe that social media is indeed not good and results in negative impact.

First of all, I believe that these social media platforms is potentially harmful for young generation especially the teenagers. They can easily access to every single thing that is available on social media and also connect to a wide range of people whose are unknown and that is extremely dangerous. For example, there are a number of cases of teenagers went missing just after they made contact with random people on the internet. Thus, social networking platforms is harmful for young generation

Secondly, social media platforms bring negative impact because there are a number of people who use it and it also allows the users to post or spread anything they like on social media. This will lead to the existence of potential fake news or hoax on social media. For example, during the covid19 pandemic, a number of people tended to spread fake news about covid19 as it was a hot topic and they liked to create chaos. This resulted in panic buying where many people rushed into the supermarkets and bought necessities because they were scared that the fake news was going to happen. This panic buying led to a shortage of foods available in the market and increasing in price.

Thus, social media potentially gives bad impact on the users.

To conclude, social networking sites such as Facebook produce several negative impacts on whoever use it and the impact sometimes could be extremely dangerous.
