You won a competition and received a two-day vacation for two as a prize. Write a letter to invite a friend to go with you. In the letter
– tell about the competition you won,
– specify what kind of vacation it is,
– explain why you want your friend to be there.

Dear Rajesh,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to share some exciting news—I recently won a quiz competition organized by our local Rotary Club, and the prize is a one-week vacation for two in Goa! I can’t think of anyone better to enjoy this trip with than you, so I really hope you’ll say yes.

The quiz was quite challenging, with 200 participants and 10 tough rounds. The questions got progressively harder, but luckily, the ones I got played to my strengths. Remember how you always encouraged me to participate in quizzes back in college? Even though I never won back then, your belief in me kept me going. This victory made me think of you immediately!

The trip can be scheduled anytime in December. How about the last week? That way, we can celebrate Christmas and New Year in Goa, relive our college memories, and enjoy the beaches.

Let me know your thoughts soon—I’m really looking forward to it!

Yours lovingly,
Patcik

Examiner’s Comments:

Score: 8/10

Strengths:

  1. Clear Purpose & Tone – The letter effectively conveys excitement and a personal invitation.
  2. Logical Flow – The structure is smooth, moving from the announcement to details and a request for confirmation.
  3. Personal Touch – The reference to college days adds warmth and nostalgia.
  4. Polite & Persuasive – The request is friendly yet insistent, making it hard for Rajesh to refuse.

Areas for Improvement:

  1. Minor Grammar Tweaks – Some sentences could be more concise (e.g., “The questions that came to me were easy for me” could be “The questions suited me well”).

Why Not a Higher Score?

  • 9 or 10 would require tighter phrasing, more sophisticated vocabulary, and perfect formatting (e.g., date/address in formal letters). However, this version is strong for an informal letter and would score well in most exams.
