A fair amount of people insist that companies should pay more attention to the personal characteristics of candidates than to their professional competence. I can only partially agree with this point of view, because both professional qualifications and personal qualities are equally important for a person to achieve success at work. In this essay, I substantiate my point of view.
To commence with, the competition between companies is intensifying these days. To provide their clients with the best possible results, organizations look for the most talented people. As such, professional experience is undoubtedly crucial for the hired people. Lack of sufficient job knowledge creates inequalities among employees, and this will be an overhead for both the company and the worthy candidates. If less skilled people are hired, many bright minds miss the opportunity. Likewise, companies suffer huge losses when they spend money on unskilled staff.
However, there are several other aspects that are just as important as qualifications. First of all, no one wants to work with an unfriendly, selfish and arrogant person who never applauds others for their success. Conversely, recruiting friendly, transparent and humorous team-players builds harmony in the workplace. In addition, they must be dynamic, adaptable and ready to learn new things. Even if job seekers are less qualified for the job requirements, but if they are enthusiastic and have a strong desire to learn, they will undoubtedly be an asset to the company. Global giants such as Amazon and Google are conducting interviews known as the leadership principle round, which assesses candidates’ ability to work under pressure and their ability to adapt to an organizational work culture. Likewise, the human resources team collects information such as family backgrounds and hobbies of respondents as they provide insight into the nature of their potential employees.
To conclude, I firmly believe that appropriate academic qualifications and work experience help an individual perform to the best of their ability. Personal qualities cannot be ignored, however, as teamwork is the norm in most jobs.
